DESCRIPTION

The Xzen-Akaias is the personal arming sword of the patriarch of the Fygoon Clan. This family heirloom is a peculiar weapon, as its blade is a sharpened bar made from a solid, petrol-based material and the cross guard of the golden hilt appears like the nozzle of a candlestick. Nonetheless, the Xzen-Akaias is one of the most famous weapons on Frydar Island, for the history carved with the blade make it the physical embodiment of the true power held by the Fygoon Clan.

The history of the Xzen-Akaias begins near the end of the Dragon-Elvarian War while General Lucas Fygoon of the Dragons’ Alliance was imprisoned aboard the Nemesyda. Aware of the weakness against fire of the Elvarian Jumping Jacks, General Fygoon imagined a diabolical weapon made purely to flaunt his knowledge of how vulnerable the Jumping Jacks really were. Initial sketches called for a flamberge blade made of superheated iron, as the Dragons loyal to General Fygoon brought word on how the Bulldogs’ Superheated Maces were capable of setting the Jumping Jacks’ tunics alight; however, when the Dragons brought a Superheated Mace to the General, the uniform glow of the superheated iron did not look ferocious enough and General Fygoon set the idea aside to continue working on the Steam Armor.

After being released from the brig and ascending to the throne at the behest of Basileus Viktor Fygarin, Lucas Fygoon went back to his weapon concept. Summoning the Rodents, who were busy manufacturing Steam Armor for the Dragons, Basileus Lucas Fygoon asked for their input on his weapon design. The Rodents enlightened the Basileus of a new technology they learned of made by the Dragons of the Northern Continent: a combustible, petrol-based material that burned slowly yet created massive flames. When the Rodents demonstrated the material, being used as a source of light for their torches, Basileus Lucas Fygoon was elated to learn that his dream weapon could be a reality. Ordering his Dragons to collect all of the Rodent torches, the material was then forged into a blade. The hilt of the sword was purpose made out of gold and rubies, featuring a cross guard that protected the user’s hand from the blade’s material. The weapon now complete, Lucas Fygoon ignited the sword before his subjects, and christened it the Xzen-Akaias, meaning “Blade of Xzenos” in Noevan, a proto-Xzenesian language.

Now armed with the Xzen-Akaias, along with his Steam Armor and Ouroboros Buckler, Basileus Lucas Fygoon led the armies of the Dragons’Alliance to many victories against the armies of the Grand League of DarkWater Island, culminating in the Emerald Immolator beheading the Elvarian King and leader of the Grand League of DarkWater Island, Stephan Luftmann. After the conclusion of the Dragon-Elvarian War and the founding of the Kingdom of Frydar Island, the Xzen-Akaias was promoted to a ceremonial sword, given to the patriarch of the Fygoon Clan when he is deemed ready to become a just ruler. Despite this status, the Xzen-Akaias was used in a variety of conflicts by the Fygoon Clan, the most recent example being the Duel of Destiny by the late Basileus Daniel Fygoon. After the Pyrrhic victory Basileus Daniel Fygoon earned against Dirk Luftmann, Viceroy of the DarkWood Forest region, the Dragon in his dying moments told his most trusted friend, Minister Kaibasuton Shen, to pass down the Xzen-Akaias to his lone son, Joseph Fygoon “only when he is ready for such a responsibility.” Since his demise, Minister Shen has kept his friend’s promise, training the young Basileus until he believes Joseph Fygoon is ready to claim such a powerful birth right.

The Xzen-Akaias is the most powerful arming sword found on Frydar Island and the only weapon Joseph Fygoon cannot obtain for his collection. Since Minister Shen is the only creature who does not bow to the whims of the Basileus, not to mention Fygoon’s apprehension at threatening his caretaker and father figure, all he can do is earn the right by besting the Minister in a test of combat. Fortunately for the young Dragon, Minister Shen is more than happy to meet the Basileus’s challenge in the training room beneath Fortress Fygoon.
